Today has been declared “Rare Disease Day” by the World Health Organisation and those of us working with the public, especially in health and fitness, need to keep informed and spread the word! A rare disease is classed in Europe as one that affect fewer than 1 in every 2000 people and in the US it is classed a disease that at any given time affects fewer than 200,000 people in America.

This day has been running annually since 2008 with the main purpose of creating awareness across the general public. Each year on the final day of February it is celebrated and a theme is set. The theme for 2014 is “Care”

The website for this day (www.rarediseaseday.org) is packed with info, event listings and news updates. They also have downloadable copies of the logo (above) and campaign posters which perhaps you could print off and display in your facility.
