Morning all. Those of you who follow us on facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram will probably know I love juicing as I regularly post pics and recipes.  I hadn’t originally intended to blog about this as I am not a nutrionist or dietitian and thus am not preaching, teaching or advising on matters of food. I’m simply sharing… 😉

My Story

While I love my food and enjoy regular meals and snacks throughout the day I have always struggled with breakfast – yes the most important one! I am not a morning person and getting out of bed can be struggle enough for me some days. It’s not just a timing issue though as I don’t often feel hungry or feel like eating first thing in the morning. However I do know better so after many failed attempts at pre prepared meals, porridges, protein heavy breakfasts etc. I finally came to juicing. I will happily slurp away on a drink first thing as it does not feel too heavy or uncomfortable and even better it’s a great way of getting at least some of your 5 a day in.

As mentioned I’m not a morning person so preparation is definitely key when it comes to my breakfast challenge. Usually once a week I stock up on my fruit & veg and chop like a mad person bagging up my juice ingredients by day. Not only is this chopping very therapeutic process but means there is no excuse to skip breakfast when all I have to do is add liquid and blitz before I go. It also reduces any waste as all too often I see people go on a healthy buzz only to let the fruit and veg wilt and rot unused as their enthusiasm wanes after a few days.

Paleo Clean Living

Personally I like to keep my juices more veg heavy and less fruity and sweet. I reckon if I am going to all of this effort I may as well benefit from getting some greens in early in the day and hence my addition of kale. Yes, kale as in the curly kind your mum used to make you eat with bacon and mash on a dreary monday after school! This flavour is super strong and not the most pleasant admittedly so I only use a little per juice meaning that a whole head of kale often went off before I had used it all. That is until I came up with my Kale Kubes idea!

The Mystery of the Kale Kubes…

Since posting recipes with these included online I have been inundated with texts and messages asking me what Kale Kubes are and where I get them. Its simple… I buy a head of kale and blitz it up with a little water to blend it down to a smooth consistency. I then fill ice-cube trays with this super green liquid and freeze them ready for use as I go. Almost all of my juices have at least 1 Kale Kube included (unless I’m using spinach) to ensure they pack a punch. I use as little water as possible so as not to dilute the goodness too much and find I get about 2 large leaves per kube. I pop these in with my other juice ingredients each morning before blitzing. Simples.
